Just in time for Valentine's Day, two free films at Nicolet College look at many aspects of love
The award-winning documentary "Age of Love" will show at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, in the Nicolet College Theatre. The film follows a group of 30 seniors in Rochester, N.Y., who sign up for a speed-dating event for those aged 70 to 90. Inspired by his uncle's new romance at the age 78, director Steven Loring explores the often overlooked dating scene of seniors, defeating stereotypes through this humorous and poignant look into the hearts of the booming older population.
The film is co-sponsored by Nicolet's Learning in Retirement program, the Oneida County Department on Aging and the Forest County Office on Aging.
The French foreign film "The Fairy" will show the following week at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, also in the Nicolet Theatre.
Earning a box full of film festival awards, the story follows sad-sack Dom, a hapless night hotel clerk who falls in love with an elusive fairy. After granting his first two wishes, the fairy disappears and Dom embarks on a playful and silly quest to find her.
The film is subtitled but is easy to follow as it is light on dialogue. Local film buffs Steven Schreier and Tom Jerow will present the film, facilitate discussion, and answer any questions.
