By Kayla Thomason-

Planning for one of the most important days of your life - your wedding day - is exciting and quite an undertaking. There are many decisions to be made but Lund and Taylor Bridal Gallerie's annual Magical Moments Bridal Expo, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Gallerie, with a fashion show at 2 p.m., offers brides a trove of ideas and the opportunity to talk with vendors who can help them design their day.

Brides can interact with the approximately 20 vendors - several of whom are new this year - and see what they have to offer.

Experts in nearly every aspect of wedding planning will be there. Brides can ask questions about flowers, locations, decorations, music, cakes/cupcakes (with tastings), makeup, caterers, hair and more.

Each expo participant will be given a card and they will have to go to each vendor to get a square initialed. Once filled, the card will be put into a drawing for a $500 gift certificate to Lund and Taylor Bridal Gallerie.

The winner will be announced the following Monday.

Door prizes from the vendors will be given away as well.

At 2 p.m. the participants will take their seats around the stage for the fashion show.

There will be 15 to 20 models showing off approximately 50 dresses and tuxedoes, mostly 2017 wedding attire. Featured will be the new blush wedding dress. Blush is a touch pinker than champagne, adding a little light twist to the traditional dress.

Other dresses will feature sleeves, illusion netting and many other popular styles.

Bridal gowns

Ivory dresses are still quite popular with brides, as the color works well with many skin tones.

For those who want a little more color to their gown, blush is the go-to color this year.

"We got a couple of pretty ones in," said Mary Taylor, owner of Lund and Taylor Bridal Gallerie.

The popular styles of dresses are similar to last year with lace, fit and flair, sleeves, coverlets, illusion net, and straps becoming more popular.

"We're seeing a lot more straps, thicker straps and less of the strapless - I mean strapless is still big," Taylor said. "We are seeing more girls want to have more sleeves and cover up I think."

Brides are still finishing off their attire with headbands or hairpieces like veils.

"A lot of girls come in thinking they don't want a veil, but when we put a veil on them they tend to go toward the veil then," Taylor said. "The veil just gives you that finished bride feel."

For shoes, brides tend to choose open-toed strappy shoes in nude or silver for the bridesmaids as it goes well with most dresses and colors.

When trying on gowns and accessories, brides often have a little audience to bounce ideas off, but Taylor recommends no more than three people.

Brides and the bridesmaids should get their dresses a year to six months before the big day so there is time for alterations, she added.

Bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride

Taylor has noticed that more bridal gowns, bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride dresses are long.

Pastels, blushes and charcoal are still popular and the Mori Lee label came out with some dresses that have a floral print.

Like last year, Taylor is seeing a lot of brides choose a particular color for the bridesmaid dresses and go with different styles to accommodate the figures of her attendants.

"Everybody can get what looks good on them," she said.

Groom/Groomsmen

Suits are more in favor than tuxedoes, and the informal look of vest and no jacket is still trending. Navy blue and charcoal are the most popular colors, according to Taylor.

The men's attire isn't as straightforward as the average groom or groomsmen may think.

They can choose the number of buttons on their jackets and lapel style (if they decide to get jackets), whether the pants are pleated or unpleated, the color of the vest and tie, and which shoes to wear, according to Taylor.

Groomsmen's and mother-of-the-bride attire should be purchased no later than six to eight weeks before the big day.

Tips

Taylor encourages brides to start planning as soon as possible as there is a lot of ground to cover.

Starting early can help ease nerves and give the couple a sense of calm on the big day.

For those who choose to lose weight, they should still get their dresses well in advance, as they can be altered.

For brides who start feeling overwhelmed with all the planning and concern over things not going exactly as intended, Taylor says "just remember that at the end of the day you will be married to your significant other, and that's what is important."
