Marywood to host 'Getting to Know the Other' program
"A 45-year-old African woman of Cameroon, West Africa, Sister Gloria has made it her mission to travel the vast countries of Africa," according to a Marywood press release announcing the program. "She has done critical assessments of Africa's past and works to assist its future in becoming a place of multi-cultural and intercultural encounters. You will not want to miss her passionate insights, her warm heart and easy-to-listen-to presentation. Despite the numerous challenges and difficulties afflicting the African continent, Sister Gloria loves sharing ways we can 'get to know the other' and lessen the separations in today's growing, global world."
After receiving her doctorate degree at the Urbaniana University in Rome, Italy, in 2012, she has been teaching at Urbaniana and leading symposiums in Africa. Her dream includes helping the African schools to become schools of peace, reconciliation and justice where people can learn to live and love each other without distinctions of race, tribe or nation, the release states.
Sister Gloria's travel to the Northwoods is part of a companion relationship of her native community and the La Crosse Franciscan Sisters ministering at Marywood. She will share her learnings and visions with those gathered at Holy Family Church's dining space from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23.
A free will offering will assist Marywood's outreach. Pre-registration is helpful for planning purposes. For more information, or to register, contact: [email protected], or 715-385-3750.
