The Rhinelander Swim Club has returned to the pool after the holiday break, competing in Medford on Saturday Jan. 7.

Despite a two-week time period when swimmers couldn't practice, there were still a lot of personal bests and some big time drops.

"It was great to see the kids back in the water and swimming fast," coach Jenny Heck said. "Most every swimmer had a best time and they continue to show improvement in technique and speed."

The biggest time drop of the week belong to Sierra Woodford, who improved 1 minute, 16 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley.

Claire Caselton, Ella Cordy, Emma Houg, Hannah Rumney and Trevyn Rappley recorded 20-plus second time drops in at least one event; Daniel Gillingham, Phoebe Moran, Samson Shinners, Noelle St. Pierre had time drops of 15 to 20 seconds and Ella Heck, Mia Gillingham, Zachariah King and Olin Slette had time drops of 10 to 15 seconds.

RSC was also represented at the Tide Winter Open late weekend in Wausau.

Ten-year-old Abi Winnicki, earned a first-place high points trophy in her age group with wins in the 200 IM, the 100 IM and the 50 butterfly. Additionally, she was second in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 50 backstroke and third in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle.

Makenna Winnicki, 14, earned a third-place high point trophy. Her meet included a runner-up finish in the 200 butterly and the 100 backstroke; a third in the 1,650 freestyle; fourth-place finishes in 200 IM, the 500 freestyle and the 100 freestyle; a fifth in the 50 freestyle and a seventh in the 100 butterfly.

Jack Antonuk, 12, took sixth in his age division. He won the 100 butterfly; took second in the 200 freestyle and 50 breaststroke; third in the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly and fourth in the 100 freestyle. Additionally, Antonuk was part of a 250 mixed freestyle relay team that placed first and a 200 mixed medley relay team that finished second.

Carter Gaber, 12, scored top-three finishes in a pair of relays, was fifth in the 100 backstroke, seventh in the 50 backstroke and eighth in the 100 IM. Lisa Kennedy, 13, was part of a 400 mixed medley relay team that place fifth.

The Hodags are home this weekend for in invitational Saturday at the Heck Family Community Pool.
