Free guided snowshoe hike at Dugan Squash Lake Preserve
The hike will feature a unique property that was purchased by Pat and Sue Dugan with the intent of donating it to the Northwoods Land Trust, which they did in 2009, according to a NWLT press release.
The Dugan Preserve protects over 4,000 feet of natural shoreline on Squash Lake and it is open to the public.
To get there from Rhinelander, follow U.S. Hwy. 8 west for about 6 miles, turn left on Squash Lake Road and follow for a mile to the Dugan Nature Preserve sign (on the left).
"The Dugan Preserve is one of five properties that have been donated to NWLT that are now open to the public for hiking, snowshoeing and wildlife watching," the release states. "We'll tour this beautiful property by snowshoeing down to the lake and across a small bay on Squash Lake to the permanently protected esker peninsula."
The snowshoe hike is open to all ages and is a family-friendly event. The hike will be about 1/2 mile and about an hour long.
Hikers are asked to come prepared with appropriate clothing, any personal hiking supplies (water, camera, etc.) and snowshoes. A light snack will be provided. RSVP to the Northwoods Land Trust office at 715-479-2490 by Thursday, Jan. 19.
