Oneida County 4-H leaders John Kubisiak and Trista Alsteen were recently recognized as the organization's 2016 "Volunteers of the Year."

Kubisiak initiated a 4-H fishing project that led to a partnership with the Let's Go Fishing Organization, according to a press release announcing the honor. He was co-leader for the June Family Fishing Fun Day and January Ice Fishing events.

"His passion for teaching youth the benefits of fishing, his outreach to other people to make events happen, and his sense of responsibility to work out the details of each activity make him a most valued leader," the release states.

Trista Alsteen grew up in the 4-H program and is passionate about learning and passing on this passion to others. This past year she coordinated an "Adopt a Beehive" project with a local beekeeper, led a 4-H project at the Champs Afterschool program, helped at the Oneida County Fair, was a co-leader for the December Holiday Craft Workshop, and led a station at Family Fishing Fun Day.
