A 60-year-old Rhinelander man has been charged in Oneida County Circuit Court with three counts of possession of child pornography following an investigation that began in Wisconsin Rapids.

In addition to the Oneida County charges, Roger W. Krutke is also charged with one count each of first-degree child sexual assault (sexual contact with a child under age 13) and attempted first-degree child sexual assault (sexual contact with a child under age 13) in Wood County.

According to the criminal complaints, the parents of a 12-year-old girl told Wisconsin Rapids police their daughter had disclosed to them that Krutke had been sexually abusing her for approximately one year. The alleged victim reported that Krutke had touched her inappropriately as well as taken indecent photographs of her dating back to the summer of 2015. She also told detectives there may be other alleged underage victims.

On Dec. 19, a special agent from the Wiscon-sin Depart-ment of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation obtained a search warrant from Branch II Judge Michael Bloom for Krutke's Rhinelander apartment as well as property he owns in Park Falls and his vehicle. That search warrant was executed by law enforcement on Dec. 20, according to the criminal complaint.

During the search of Krutke's apartment in Rhinelander, a laptop computer was seized. A dash cam memory card was also seized from his vehicle. In the Park Falls residence, a computer hard drive was seized from a computer tower located in the garage.

According to the criminal complaint, police also found a backpack in Krutke's vehicle with various outdoor survival items. In his apartment, police recovered a small notebook with a written, numbered list that included the notations "don't be known," "leave state/country," "be covered," "colored contacts," "kidnap - say its your cousin your surprising," "bring to middle of field," "kill" and "leave." On another page in the same notebook there was a note that read "Dear kids, I don't think I can go on. I'm sorry! I tried to be a good person, I failed..."

When he was taken into custody, the complaint also noted Krutke had approximately $3,500 on him, which he told investigators was normal for him.

Krutke made his initial appearance before Bloom on the Oneida County case Dec. 22 with his attorney Gary Cirilli, at which time he declined to waive the statutory time limits for his preliminary hearing. Bloom set a $50,000 cash bond. After Krutke waived his preliminary hearing Jan. 4, arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 6.

The Wood County charges were filed Dec. 27, but Krutke has yet to appear there.

He remains in the Oneida County Jail unable to post bond.

If convicted of the child pornography charges, he faces up to 25 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of three year and a $100,000 fine on each count. The first-degree child sexual assault charge is a class B felony with a maximum prison sentence of 60 years upon conviction while the attempted first-degree child sexual assault charge carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 30 years. The charges stem from images found on videos allegedly recovered from the computer equipment and dash cam seized when the search warrant was executed.
