Rhinelander Seventh Day Adventist Thrift Shop donates to Kids in Need project

By By Donna Peters-

The Rhinelander Seventh Day Adventist Thrift Shop recently presented the Kids in Need Project with a $1,000 donation.

Mary Perlberg and Amy Moreno from the SDA thrift shop presented the check to Kids in Need director Angela Dexter, Emily Lenten, and Sharon Kintop. Talking to these young women was such an inspiration to me. Hearing the love they have for the kids was so refreshing, and the excitement of a new building with more room to expand and for more kids to "drop in" is a blessing.

The volunteers of the SDA thrift shop at 18 W. Rives Street in Rhinelander got together in the fall to plan what they would like to do for the community. Each of the volunteers has a heart for children and it was decided that part of the profits every three months would go to a different organization. It was decided that the profits for November, December and January would go to Kids in Need. The next organization that the SDA thrift shop will donate to will be Lily's House. Lily's House is a safe place for victims of domestic abuse. Other donations have been to the Rhinelander Food Pantry, the Northwoods chapter of "Let's Go Fishing," weekend food for kids program, and they also adopt a floral hanging basket to beautiful downtown Rhinelander.

The SDA thrift shop has been in existence since 1986, where it started out in a house on Phillip Street here in Rhinelander. It then moved to 18 W. Rives Street where it is today thanks to Iris House who donated the building to the church. The thrift shop was started so the church would have more money available to help people in need. It is nonprofit and everyone is a volunteer. The profits from the SDA thrift shop are used to help needy families in times of crisis. Gently used clothing is donated by the community, volunteers sort, price, and hang the items. The shop was remodeled in 2013 and is now a much nicer, cleaner, more pleasant place to shop, with reasonable prices everyone can afford.

Hours of operations for Kids in Need at the new and improved location 52 N. Brown Street are 1 to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday for the drop-in center and the teen center is open 3-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. To contact Kids in Need for more information or to donate you can call them at 715-365-7003. There is always a need and there are many kids who find comfort and love at the center. There is so much affirmation there not only from the staff and volunteers but even the posters and pictures on the walls! For needed donations go to www.kinrhinelander.

org.

Hours of operation for the SDA thrift shop are Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The phone number for the shop is 715-369-2737.

Thank you to all our customers and donors past, present and future who make volunteering and helping others a blessing.
