Teams from Wisconsin and Minnesota were at this 8-team tournament Feb. 10-12. The Hodags played Viroqua first thing Saturday morning.
The Hodags had a strong first period which ended 6-0. The second period, the Hodags could not get a puck in the back of the net, while Viroqua woke up and scored three goals.
The third period was similar, as Viroqua scored two more, ending the game 6-5 in favor of the Hodags. Harrison Shinners had a hat trick in the game.
Next, the Hodags met up the Moose Lake, and quickly took control of the game. The final score was 9-0. The goalie, Caleb Shefveland got a shutout, Harrison Shinners had another hat trick, and Harlan Wojtusik earned a playmaker - tallying three assists.
The Hodags played the Edgcumbe Stars, Sunday afternoon for the championship game. Penalty trouble in the first period resulted in the Hodags trailing 4-3 at the end of the second period.
Rhinelander was able to stay out of the box during the third period, to eventually tie the game with a goal from Conor Pequet and an assist from Jake Losch. Wojtusik scored the winning goal, with an additional goal by Shinners to secure the win 6-4.
There were other teams from Superior, Forest Lake, Woodbury also at the tournament, in addition to the home team the Icemen.
