James Williams Middle School (JWMS) students just wrapped up an annual "Hoops for Heart" event that raises money for the American Heart Association. All students participated in a variety of basketball activities in their physical education classes to learn how to live heart healthy lifestyles. According to the CDC, about 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year - that's 1 in every 4 deaths. Learning activities have an emphasis on how to prevent heart disease by staying tobacco-free, eating healthy, reducing sodium intake, and being physically active. The final event was Dec. 21 and 22 in class that included a 3-on-3 tournament and fun stations for kids to learn about their heart health and basketball. Over $168 was raised for the cause.
