The Rhinelander Swim Club took part in its final meet before the holiday Saturday in Lakeland.

Although pleased with the finishes of her swimmers, head coach Megan Cihla is just as excited watching swimmers complete new events.

"I continue to challenge swimmers by entering them in longer events," she said. Distances events are ones that kids tend to shy away from and think that they can't do. For instance, I had three brand new to club swimmers compete in the 100 freestyle; Tessa Baker, Kristopher Harris, and Chris Larson, they did fantastic! Each one of them was extremely worried about competing in it.

"RSC's returning swimmers are also being challenged. Trevor Marvin gave it his all in the 200 Butterfly, Evelyn Simonson pushed thru her 200 IM, Samson Shinners competing in the 500 free for the first time. Even with all of these successes, the highlight swim of the meet was Noelle St. Pierre's 100 freestyle. In the swimming world to break 1:00 in the 100 freestyle is a huge step and Noelle finally did it this weekend.

"This is something she has been working on for a while now, and can finally say she achieved this goal," Cihla continued. "I am very excited I got to witness this accomplishment and couldn't be more proud of her and the other RSC swimmers"

Swimmers with time drops this meet included Brock Arrowood and Augusta Gruett, who dropped 20 or more seconds in at least one event. Claire Caselton, Augusta Gruett, Barak Rappley, Sierra Woodford and Kelsey Yunkers had 15-second time drops; Jack Antonuk, Brock Arrowood, Zeva Barrett, Lilyana Bontz, Shawn Denis, Emma Houg, Max Miljevich, Kiley Pooch had 10-second time dorps and Drayke Arrowood, Ella Cordy, Dean Gillingham, Karly Gillingham, Mia Gillingham, Vivian Lamers, Sarah Marshall, Phoebe Moran, Payton Seidl, Austen Slette, Makenna Winnicki posted five-second time drops.

Abi Winnicki competes at state

Abi Winnicki, 11, was in Milwaukee at the 11 and under single age state meet this past weekend. Winnicki placed second in the 50 freestyle, third in the 100 freestyle, fifth in the 200 IM, seventh in the 100IM, eighth in the 50 butterfly and 12th in the 100 butterfly.
