'Christmas Memories' poetry contest winners announced
Nine Rhinelander High School freshmen students recently participated in a poetry contest sponsored by the Carlson Funeral Home to help celebrate its 25th annual Christmas Memories program. This year's program was held Saturday, Dec. 9, at the funeral home. Each year Carlson's offers the program to support members of the community affected by loss as they deal with the challenges the holiday presents. The two winners each received a $50 cash prize while the other poets received gift certificates for Dairy Queen. Students wrote poems about loved ones they have lost, who are lovingly remembered, and will always be cherished. This year's winners were Neveah Forester for her poem "I Miss You" and Shawna Will for her poem "Forever Love". Students from Rhinelander High School, James Williams Middle School, Northwoods Community Secondary School, Nativity, and Zion have all been a part of this poetry contest at times over the last approximately 20 years.
