Rhinelander Community Foundation awards $5,000 grant to food pantry
The grant was initially a $2,500 donation to the Rhinelander Community Foundation with the donor designating the funds be used for the Weekend Food For Kids Program. Knowing that hunger hinders child development and then learning that up to 250 elementary students will begin the school year on the program, the Rhinelander Community Foundation's Board of Directors chose to match the original donation, bringing the total grant to $5,000, the release states.
The Weekend Food For Kids Program provides packaged, nonperishable, healthy foods for weekend nutrition to elementary schools students (and their siblings) who are eligible for the free and reduced lunch program.
The grant funds from the Community Foundation will provide healthy food for 38 children for the entire 2017-2018 school year.
While presenting the grant award, several Community Foundation Board Members took a tour of the food pantry.
RCF secretary Brian Seidl shared, "After touring the facility and getting just a glimpse of the incredible efforts of the management and staff at the Rhinelander Food Pantry, it's evident that this is a very impressive organization that provides great benefits to members of our community in need. The Rhinelander Community Foundation is very happy to be able to provide funds to assist the food pantry with their mission."
This Rhinelander Community Foundation continues to introduce the organization and its mission of facilitating charitable giving by awarding grants to charitable organizations and contributing to projects that impact the Rhinelander area in a positive way. Several funds have already been established to benefit the community, allowing donors to connect with causes that are meaningful to them.
In the future, grants and projects will be awarded through a competitive application and review process
