A large crowd welcomed stock car racing back to the one-third mile high-banked TNT Speedway Saturday night in Three Lakes.

One could not have asked for a better opening chapter to the track's revival. From the start of the night's heats to the features, numerous races were won by someone that was not leading for much of the race.

Eagle River's Jason Zdroik jumped out to a lead for the first eight laps of the 20 lap Midwest Modified feature. On the ninth lap, fellow Eagle River racer Tad Schoonover got by Zdroik. The two battled it out right to the finish with Schoonover getting the win.

Earlier in the night, Zdroik held off Schoonover in an exciting heat race. A couple of western Upper Peninsula of Michigan racers made the trek south, with Marenisco's Duane Dunbar getting the other heat in a battle with fellow Yooper George Truscott of Greenland.

Just like the Midwest Modified feature, the racer that jumped out to an early lead was unable to cash in at the end. Eagle River's Ken Valeria drove Dustin White's Street Stock to a heat win, then came back to lead for the first nine laps of the feature. Birnamwood's Luke Uttecht had the patience to stay right on the tail of Valeria, until the 10th lap when Valeria's car began to experience mechanical problems, and it was all Uttecht the rest of the way. Uttecht also won his heat race.

The Pure Stock class figured to be a battle between a couple of the top shoes at Eagle River Speedway - Rhinelander's Jason Eisel and Argonne's Jake Ison. The battle lived up to its billing.

Ison worked his way through traffic in the Pure Stock feature to challenge Eisel. However, when the checkered flag flew, it was Eisel with the win. Eagle River's David Blackberg held off Rhinelander's Steve Melton to win the first heat, with Eisel edging out Ison in the other heat.

Argonne's Jesse Votis proved that you don't have to log a lot of laps in the Truck class this year to be the one to beat. Votis easily won his heat and outlasted the field to win the feature. James Koga finished second in the feature.

The 4-Cylinder Stingers showed the fans that just because the front-wheel drive race cars have half the engine of the other classes doesn't mean they can't get around the track in a hurry. They ran speeds close to that of the bigger engine displacement classes. The high- banked turns gave the Stingers the opportunity to thrill the fans.

Rhinelander's Bobby Sheldon swept the class winning the feature and his heat race. Tigerton's Teegan Woodstrack won the other heat.

Saturday night marked the first race at the track since September 2015 and the first for new track owner Toby Rott. The track's abbreviated 2017 schedule will continue the next two Saturday nights and an eight-race program is already in the works for the summer of 2018.

The same five classes will race at TNT Speedway this Saturday night. On Sept. 3 the stars of the Dirt Kings Late Model Tour will be at the track. The winner of the Dirt King feature will take home $2,500 in cash.
