Eagle River's Tad Schoonover and Rice Lake's Jim Randall qualified for the WISSOTA AFCO Race of Champions by winning the features in the Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks, respectively, Friday night at Eagle River Speedway.

Schoonover ran away from everyone in his heat race and, if it wasn't for a late race caution in the feature, he would had a large margin of victory in that race, too.

The closest racing took place between Jesse Aho, Shane Halopka and Wayne Stricker for second place. Aho held on to get second while Halopka took third and Stricker took fourth. Stricker won an earlier heat race.

One of the best races of the year took place in the WISSOTA Street Stock heat race. Defending track champion Ryan Valeria of Rhinelander and Randall battled throughout the 10-lap race. Valeria held the lead on the final lap going into the sweeping second turn, but Randall got on the inside through Turn 2 and took the lead heading into the tight Turn 3.

But Randall washed high coming out of the final corner and Valeria ducked back to the inside. The two raced side by side at the finish line. Following a brief conference, track officials awarded Valeria the win.

Randall made sure the feature wasn't nearly as close. He ran away from Valeria, former track champ Jordan Kurtti and Bruce Stanley to earn the right to represent the track next month at the Dakota State Fair track in Huron, South Dakota.

In the WISSOTA Pure Stocks Eagle River's Jake Ison entered the night only 12 points ahead of Rhinelander's Jason Eisel for the lead while the class's most recent feature winner, Isabelle Valeria, sat third in the standings, 45 points behind.

Ison left the feature early, opening the door for Eisel to pick up some points. However it was not Eisel, or Valeria that would go to the Auto Value victory lane. It was Bruce Crossing, Michigan's Tom Lannet that ended with the feature win.

Shiocton's Denver Larson took both the Sprint 600 heat and feature. After numerous problems throughout the year, Denver ran away from the entire field early on and won by a big margin.

Summit Lake's Herb Dettman did battle with Woodboro's Cory Allen in both the heat and the feature Friday night in the Speedway Truck class. Dettman worked his way through traffic to challenge and pass Allen for the heat race win.

In the feature, Allen was running away from the entire field. That was until a late race caution. Then Allen held off Dettman to get the win.

Deerbrook's Josie Rae Reif held off the defending Junior Sprint champion Dustin Kangas of Phelps for the win. Minocqua's Cole Stella continues to lead in the class point battle.

Some of the most exciting races of the night took place in the high-speed Sport ATVs. The racing ATVs were hitting speeds of close to 70 MPH on the one-third mile tri-oval.

Antigo's Dylan Seis won both his heat and the feature on his Honda.

In addition to the races, Friday night's program was Northern Access Special Olympics night at the track. Racing continues this Friday at Eagle River Speedway with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30.
