Fitness enthusiasts will take to the pavement, dirt and water Aug. 26 for the fifth annual W.I.L.D. Hodag Mini-Triathlon at Holiday Acres.

Registrants need to arrive between 6:30 and 8 a.m. to pick up their packet of information and get their gear ready.

Starting at 8 a.m. the crowd will charge into Lake Thompson for the water portion of the mini triathlon. Those who elect to swim will cover a 300-yard course and those who choose to kayak will paddle a half mile.

Once out of the water racers will take off for their bicycles, where they will travel the 10K course - which is about half pavement, half trail.

Following the bicycle segment, participants will finish with a 5K run, on terrain consisting of about 60 percent pavement.

The top three winners in the male and female categories will receive medals.

Mike Prom, director of the race, hopes to get between 60 and 80 racers.

Pre-registration is open until Aug. 23 at midnight and those who register before midnight Aug. 20 will be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Preregistration is available now for $75 per racer and beginning Aug. 24 it will be $85 per racer.

Relay groups can register now for $150 per team, and $170 per team after Aug. 23.

Those who would like to race in only the 5K will pay a fee of $35.

Racers will need to bring proof of online registration such as a receipt or email confirmation as well as photo ID day of the race.

Proceeds from this event go to W.I.L.D. (Wise Intentional Leadership Development) to help youth leadership skills locally and abroad.

"This event is a key fundraiser for W.I.L.D.," said Prom. "The profit helps offer training and development of especially young people in Africa, Asia and even here in the U.S. If you want to change or impact a society, you develop the young people."

W.I.L.D. is a Christ-centered, interdenominational, international organization that implements Biblical leadership principals to leaders of all ages. It was started in the early 2000s through Headwaters Christian Youth.
