Swim lessons at the School District of Rhinelander help children feel comfortable in and around the water
With this in mind, the School District of Rhinelander offered free swim lessons this summer for youth and adults through the Community Education program.
"The program was a big hit!," according to a district press release. "A total of 131 individuals, ranging in age from 5 years to adult, took advantage of the lessons that were led by instructor Megan Cihla. Participants had a wide range of skill level coming in to the lessons. All swimmers left feeling competent in the water. Almost all participants ended their lesson being able to swim at least 25 yards in either the freestyle or backstroke."
"I'm super proud of these kids," said Cihla.
One parent stated, "My kids gained more in this 8-day session than we could've hoped. Megan was phenomenal with the kids. She kept them all focused and on task while helping them reach their swimming potential. My kids will definitely try to make these lessons again!" Another parent added, "Thank you so much for offering these lessons free of charge. With so many bodies of water surrounding our area, it's important that people have the skills to be safe." An individual who took part in the adult lessons commented, "Megan gave me the drive and strength to be able to have the confidence in myself to swim again. She's an excellent teacher. I would recommend her to teach any age!"
The district plans to offer the lessons again next summer. More information will be released in the spring.
