Rain forced the cancellation of Friday night's races at Eagle River Speedway and prompted the announcement of the finalists for the Bobbi-O Spirit Award to be made over the media rather than at the track.

Fans, racers and race crew members have made nominations throughout the summer for the award, named in honor of the late Midwest Modified driver Bob Kleinschmidt of Arbor Vitae. Open nominations started in the middle of June and went through July.

The four individuals that received the most nominations are the late Mike Trinka, Ryan Schuppler, Jason Eisel and Dustin White.

Trinka, an Eagle River Speedway flagman and track official for nearly three decades, passed away unexpectedly in June. Trinka was from Eagle River.

Ryan Schuppler is an official at the track and works on track preparation before every race. Schuppler is from Eagle River.

Jason Eisel is one of the top racers in the WISSOTA Pure Stock Class. Eisel is from Rhinelander.

Dustin White is currently in second in the WISSOTA Street Stock Class point standings. White is from Eagle River.

"All four are deserving of being the finalists for this special award. The fans, racers, and crew members will have a difficult decision as to who to vote for," Eagle River Speedway promoter Kevin Dawson said. "This year's Bobbi-O Spirit Award winner will be amongst some very special award winners from the past two years."

The first Bobbi-O Spirit Award went to former track owner, the late Mark Glembin. Long-time racer Ken Valeria of Eagle River won the award last year.

Voting for the Bobbi-O Spirit Award will begin this Friday night during the AFCO Race of Champions qualifier at Eagle River Speedway and run through the end of the racing season. The award winner will be announced at the track's banquet dinner in January.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature winner this Friday night will qualify for the AFCO Race of Champions Sept. 12-16 at the Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron, South Dakota.

This Friday's races at Eagle River Speedway will also feature the final Spectator 1-on-1 race of the season. This is in addition to the regular weekly schedule of racing of WISSOTA-sanctioned Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks along with the Sprint 600s and Junior Sprints.
