Selected from Laona High School is McKenna Murray. McKenna is the daughter of Al and Brenda Murray. Chosen from Wabeno High School are Kassidy Ashbeck, daughter of Steve and Raletta Ashbeck; Emma Barfknecht, daughter of Dan and Ann Barfknecht; and Hannah Christianson, daughter of Dan and Laurie Christianson.
The criteria for selection as a Badger Girl include scholarship, character, community service, and an interest in learning more about government. Girls are nominated by their high school principals and guidance counselors, with final selection by Unit # 44's BGS Committee.
Kathleen Marsh, committee chair, described the selection process: "Every January I meet with the nominated girls. I explain what it is they will be doing at Badger Girls State and stress that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We talk about their expectations and their future plans. I report back to the unit at our January meeting where the final decision is made."
Unit President Karen Prueter: "BGS is one of the most rewarding and inspiring activities in which we participate. Laona and Wabeno High School can be very proud of these girls and all of the other BGS delegates who have represented us in the past."
