St. Germain gains tranquility and health with Nagomi Yoga and Massage
Stein has been teaching yoga classes throughout the area for several years and received her training at a specialized school in Portland. Where many yoga schools focus on one form of the activity, Stein chose a school that encompassed multiple options.
"There's a lot of schools that are specific in what they teach you," Stein said, "and yoga has all these different kinds you can be trained to do - vinyasa or shadanga or kundalini - all these other very specific types. The nice thing about the Lotus Seed is we looked at all the different kinds and blended them together."
Stein is also a recent graduate from the Fox Valley School of Massage in Appleton and offers massage therapy for those who seek a different approach to muscle tension.
"What's really cool is now my husband is going to massage school," Stein said. "So by next summer we're going to have this great health thing going on - get some tea, get a massage, do some yoga."
One of the forms of yoga Stein offers is aerial yoga. This form includes a stand with a hammock-style fabric used to hold a person off the ground as they move into different positions.
"The way it holds your body, it allows your fascia to release so you can end up getting into poses you might not be able to on the ground," Stein said.
Aerial yoga classes will be limited to three people and can be scheduled as semi-private sessions between friends.
Class schedules are currently in a testing phase, so to speak, as Stein gains a sense of people's availability and yoga needs.
"I'm just trying to feel out which times work best now," Stein said. "We do know Tuesdays at 6 p.m. will always be our community class. It's free or by donation for the Humane Society."
Once a month, Stein will also host a "wondrous woman" class. This is part of an international campaign known as the Body Image Movement and promotes a positive self- image for women toward their bodies. The class will offer dance and additional resources available through Stein's role as ambassador for the movement.
"One of the reasons this calls me so much is because I have yoga students that are 75 to 80 and they're still worried about being overweight," Stein said. "I'm just like, 'Is that ever going to stop?'"
The wondrous woman class will be free but like the community class, donations for local charitable efforts are welcome.
"We like the idea of exchange so what we would like to do is have a different charity each month we'll take donations for," Stein said. "We'd like to get their wish list and just try to help the community."
In the fall, winter and spring, Stein said most classes will be held in the studio. Warm weather days, however, will find classes outside in a nearby courtyard. A mixture of early- to mid-morning, afternoon and evening classes can be expected as well.
"I'm also going to have some days where I offer massage later into the evening," Stein said, "because some people just can't get off work to go to a massage in the day."
