Rhinelander Swim Club closes summer season, looks ahead to fall
Summer State was held July 29-31 at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deere. James Heck, Lisa Kennedy and Abi Winnick represented the club at the event.
Heck placed 13th in the 50-yard breaststroke (49.58 seconds), and 15th in the 50 butterfly (40.64).
Kennedy took 19th 200 freestyle relay, 28th in the 400 medley relay, 29th in the 200 medley relay and 28th in the 400 free relay.
Winnicki placed fifth in the 100 freestyle (1:11.55), sixth in the 50 butterfly (36.18), seventh in the 200 IM (3:00.58), seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:24.26), ninth in the 50 backstroke (38.36) and 8th in 50 free (32.45). She had personal-best times in all of her events at state.
Winnicki then traveled to Indianapolis Aug. 4-7 to compete in the 14 & under MegaZone meet.
This meet is host to 15 states in the central region. Out of the 1,900 athletes competing, 144 were from Wisconsin. In order to swim this meet, swimmers needed to meet qualifying standards, by exceeding prerequisite times in each event.
Winnicki qualified in seven different events, taking 70th out of 85 swimmers in the 100 freestyle (1:13.93), 50th of 101 in the 50 backstroke (38.53), 34th of 74 in the 100 butterfly (1:22.08), 10th out of 23 in the 200 freestyle relay, 52nd out of 86 in the 50 freestyle (33.15), 48th out of 101 in the 100 backstroke (1:23.29) and 28th of 98 in the 50 butterfly (35.43).
Rhinelander Swim club will host registration for its 2016-17 winter season from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 3 and Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Rhinelander High School commons.
All swimmers will be required to attend a testing night to best determine the placement/practice group that will best fit their ability and skill level for the coming season. Detailed information can be found on the swim club's website: http://www.worknotes.com/WI/Rhinelander/RSC/newsflash.aspx.
