In addition to enjoying a meal of barbecue chicken and ribs, patrons participated in auctions and raffles throughout the evening with proceeds going back to the RIA. During the banquet,
Holiday Acres owner Kari Zambon presented the RIA with a check totaling $2,151.10, which represents a portion of rooms sales generated when youth hockey teams stay at the resort during tournaments hosted by the RIA in the winter months.
"It's really been a boon to our business in the winter," Zambon said. "We want to thank you very much and tell you this year has been the best ever."
Zambon and her son, Pete, pictured left, presented the check to Rhinelander Ice Arean manager Brett Aylesworth during the banquet.
"We just want to thank Holiday Acres for putting up all the hockey teams here," Aylesworth said. "They do a wonderful job hosting. We do get a lot of teams say, 'We're only coming to your tournament if we can stay at Holiday Acres.' They do a great job, and I think all the hotels in town do, but they have done it for years and really understand and appreciate what we do."
The banquet signifies the start of the winter season for the RIA. Practices begin this week for youth hockey and figure skating teams. The first youth hockey games of the season will take place Saturday, Nov. 5.
