Hundreds enjoy Fall Fest at Hanson's Garden Village
By Kayla Thomason-
"It's a really good turnout," said Beth Wallschlaeger, manager and daughter of the owners. "I was worried about the weather but I think in the first hour we had 200 people already."
Children enjoyed darting through the corn mazes and participating in scavenger hunts, pumpkin bowling, pin the spider on the web, tractor rides and much more.
Adults enjoyed selecting autumn decor and watching their children try the different games.
Drew Hunt liked the pumpkin bowling and was looking forward to going to the petting zoo.
"It's fun," she said.
Stella Burridge liked the games and was also looking forward to the petting zoo.
"I liked the one where you pinned the spider on the web," she said.
Braydon Lorman said he liked the corn toss and the "pin the spider on the web" game. He was looking forward to taking a turn in the corn maze.
Gina Lorman, Braydon's mother, thought it was a wonderful event.
"I think it's great, it's really nice for the kids," she said. "I think it's perfect, (the games are) age appropriate. I think they're really enjoying themselves, even if it is a little breezy and rainy."
Lorman said she was happy to bring her child to an event that benefits several school and youth groups.
"I think it's amazing (that the proceeds benefit the high school's FBLA/DECA group, the music department and Oneida County 4-H). I think it's important so yes, it's great, it's a great event," she said.
The high school students played an active role in the event, running the various booths.
"I think it's wonderful, seeing all the kids smiling and stuff, it's just so much fun to see the community come together over something that's just so valuable to the Northwoods," said Elliot Fehlen, vice president of community service for the FBLA/DECA clubs.
He thought the turnout was wonderful, especially since the weather was a bit uncooperative.
"It's wonderful to see all these people come out, especially on such a rainy day," he said. "There's a lot of things that they could be doing right now - sitting watching TV - but to be out here and be spending time as a family and as a community is wonderful."
From what he observed, there were a few activities that seemed to have a lot of participants.
"Besides eating candy, I'm going to have to go with pumpkin bowling and face painting are probably the top two (activities the children are enjoying)," he said.
Hanson's Garden Village will close for the winter season on Oct. 31, but both corn mazes will be open until then and tractor rides will be held the last two Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
