Children grinned as they navigated a hay maze, dug for colored chips in "sandboxes" filled with corn, got henna tattoos and lined up for the horse-drawn wagon rides.
Two wagons, pulled by a pair of Belgians and a pair of American Cream Drafts from Western Connection Ranch, took riders on a 15-minute scenic trip with a pit stop at a pumpkin patch where children could choose their own pumpkin to paint after the ride.
Angeleah Miller and her son Ayden enjoyed the day.
"I like (the Harvest Hoedown)," Angeleah said. "We grew pumpkins actually for the competition,"
"I like the music, I like the bands and I really liked the wagon ride, that was fun, being outside in the woods," she added, referring to live music performed by Tess and Chris, and Paco Fralick and Friends.
Ayden Miller said he enjoyed selecting a pumpkin from the patch.
"I went way in the back and then I found (my pumpkin) and then I picked it up and brought it on the wagon," he said of his find.
Tammy Dye, administrative assistant to the executive director of NATH, was pleased with the turnout.
"It's awesome, there's a lot of people, a beautiful day," she said.
The proceeds will go toward operating expenses at the Frederick Place homeless shelter, she added.
"We just want to thank the community for their support, because without all the community help and support we'd be hard pressed to go on," Dye said.
Guy Hansen, RAFP executive director, was thrilled with the turnout and how well the event came together.
"The turnout is very good so far, we had to start the wagon rides early," he said, adding a special thank you to Ponsee for donating the use of their bus to transport people back and forth.
"Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make this happen and the people that came out to celebrate and have a good day. Great thanks to Mike Hastreiter (owner of the Woodpecker and Bucketheads) to make this happen, he's been very good to work with," Hansen said. "Every time we turn around he's willing to help, he likes having (the Harvest Hoedown) here, we like having it here, it's a nice location."
