The School District of Rhinelander Community Education Program has teamed up with David Schmitz from Northland Insurance Agency to sponsor two separate offerings of the "Baby Boomer Retirement Planning" class, according to a district press release.

Recent academic research from Boston College, The Wharton School of Business and the University of Michigan (among others) details a fundamental shift in retirement planning for those nearing retirement or those already retired, the release states.

"The Baby Boomer Retirement course is designed as a comprehensive personal finance course for those in the early stages of retirement or those about to retire," the release states. "It addresses difficult retirement decisions such as optimal asset allocation, income planning, social security maximization and the pitfalls to avoid. You will receive access to over 26 academic reports detailing the "New Rules of Thumb" as well as financial tools to help you better understand risk, taxes, budgeting and estate planning."

The first offering of the class meets twice: Saturdays, Oct. 22 and 29 from 9 a.m. until noon. The course number is 2016-09 and the registration deadline is Oct. 14.

The second offering of the class meets three times: Mondays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course number is 2016-16. The registration deadline is Oct. 31.

Ages 50-70 is the target audience, however, all ages 18 and over are welcome to attend.

The instructor for the class is David Schmitz from Northland Insurance Agency. The fee is $49/person or per couple. The class will take place at Rhinelander High School (One Prospect Digital Media Center).

Pre-registration is required for all classes. To register, visit the Community section of the School District of Rhinelander website: http://www.rhinelander.k12.wi.us/community/communityeducation.cfm. Online registration is available with a credit or debit card.
