On Friday, Nov. 11, many students at Rhinelander High School had an opportunity to enjoy one of the quarterly incentives organized by the RHS PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) team, the district announced in a press release. This event was a reward for the approximately 620 students that had not received any disciplinary referrals, major or minor, during the first quarter of the 2016-2017 school year. Eligible students were released from class to spend the last hour of the day socializing in the RHS commons or listening to music provided by local musician Scott Kirby in the John and Dori Brown Performing Arts Center, the district said in a press release.

The PBIS team holds quarterly incentives each year to reward students for their positive behavior. Incentives are held shortly after the previous quarter finishes, with the exception of the annual PBIS Car Giveaway, which is usually held during the last two weeks of school. Eligibility is determined based on selected criteria by the PBIS team, and the criteria become more challenging to meet as the year goes on, and the incentives get more enticing. For example, the incentive criteria for semester two will be open only to those students that have neither disciplinary referrals or failing grades. In addition, the PBIS team is also continuing its weekly drawings, rewarding students with pizzas for lunch, coupons to local businesses, lunch with a staff member, and several other prizes.
