"It's a day to celebrate the festive spirit of the holiday season with artists from the area, local musicians and your neighbors!" Wendy Powalisz, LOLA program director, said in a press release.
On Dec. 3, LOLA will also host the third in a series on The Business of Art, for artists and creative entrepreneurs. From 10 a.m. to noon in the upstairs classroom, Fiber Artist Pam Beal and executive director Brittany Beyer of The Warehouse will focus on time management for the artist. This event is hosted by LOLA, The Warehouse and is sponsored by Nicolet College and the Vilas County Economic Development Corporation. There is a fee of $10 at the door and no need to register.
Also on schedule for classes at LOLA is two watercolor workshops. The first will be Watercolor Holiday Greeting Cards. This class will be taught by artist Wendy Powalisz and is suitable for beginners. The Greeting Card class will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. According to Powalisz, "Students will learn wet-in-wet watercolor techniques, use resist methods to create snow and add glittery embellishments to create one-of-a -kind greeting cards that are pretty enough to frame."
There is a fee of $25 for this class with all materials supplied, no experience necessary and a deadline to pay and register by Nov. 26.
From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, Eagle River artist Jane O' Brien will teach a watercolor workshop that focuses on buildings, barns and other structures. Students will learn proper perspective, how to make windows with easy brush strokes, lighting and shadows on the buildings.
This workshop is suitable for students with some watercolor experience. There is a fee of $45 and a supply list needed. Call the LOLA office for more information. Deadline for registration and payment is Nov. 24. O' Brien is a retired elementary school teacher, award-winning watercolor artist, watercolor teacher, Headwaters Art League member and shows her work at Artistree Gallery in Land O' Lakes.
