Drama students putting finishing touches on 'Sister Act'
"Sister Act" is a feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg.
It features original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken. It was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
"When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior, according to a synopsis of the show. "Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood."
Sister Act will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 through 19, with two matinee shows at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 20.
General admission tickets are $5, and will be available prior to each performance. School District of Rhinelander activity passes will also be accepted.
Something unique will also be available for sale during intermission of "Sister Act." Recently, the black curtains on stage were replaced, thanks to a generous donation from the Brown family and the Hodag Schools Foundation. Tote bags have been created by Kathy Larsen with the old curtain fabric, and will be available while supplies last. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and snacks available for sale to benefit the drama department.
