Third-graders at Crescent Elementary recently donned scrub caps, masks, booties and gloves to perform "text feature surgery" as part of their study of the characteristics of nonfiction texts. Karen Arnott's classroom was turned into an operating arena, with three "operating tables" where students searched through magazines for text features like headings, captions, diagrams, pronunciation guides, and tables of contents. The young "doctors" would like to thank both the surgical department at Ministry Medical Group and the Aspirus School District of Rhinelander Clinic for providing them with surgical attire.
