Feeling stressed? The massage therapists of The Blue Davenport, 29 W. Davenport St. in Rhinelander, can knead the tension away.

Natalie Blue and her husband came up with the idea for the business after discovering that they were going to be parents. Blue said she was looking for a flexible schedule where she could stay home during the week and work weekends when her husband could stay home.

The downtown streetscape project didn't deter Blue from selecting a space downtown, in fact, it seemed perfect, she said.

"I had looked into renting, but buying in the downtown, especially knowing that it was about to undergo a streetscape, was too appealing to pass up," Blue said. "I found the perfect building and went about putting together a plan for a major remodel to fit my needs and vision. As a service provider, I have thrived as an independent contractor and wanted to create a space where others could too, while also providing a luxury day spa to the Rhinelander area."

The salon opened in May.

Blue is a massage therapist who offers therapeutic Swedish massages, deep tissue, hot stone, myofascial release and prenatal massage. Her hours are by appointment Fridays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. As her son gets older, she expects to expand her hours.

Another massage therapist, Jessica Thunder, offers relaxation, chair, prenatal, myofascial release and customized therapeutic massages on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is available by appointment on Mondays and Thursdays.

Blue hopes to rent space to other service providers and expand the services offered.

"I can't offer nail services, but I hope to soon," she said. "As for their specific services, I can't say until I have renters. As independent contractors, these professionals will be setting their own services, prices, and hours."

Blue said her customers have been quite excited about the new space.

"Customers are excited for the services we offer as well as the fact that I am open on the weekends," she said. "They also seem excited for my vision of offering nail services, as well as estheticians services such as facials, body wraps, body scrubs and waxing. We are still currently seeking professionals to offer those services."

Within the next few weeks The Blue Davenport will have an infrared sauna installed and Blue is looking into getting a tanning bed.

The Blue Davenport's decor includes dark hardwood floors, light gray walls, and white styled ceiling and trim, giving the place a warm and sophisticated feel.

"The atmosphere of our spa is modern and elegant with small town hospitality," she said. "We offer complimentary coffee, tea and other hot beverages daily. We look forward to being an active participant in the downtown Rhinelander events as well as our community."

The spa will be participating in the Downtown Widow's Weekend Nov. 18 and 19. Those who schedule a service or buys a gift certificate when they are in the spa will receive $10 off any service with Blue. She will also be offering cookies, tea, coffee and cappuccino that weekend.
