By Kayla Thomason-

Having outgrown its original location, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore has moved to 607 W. Kemp St. in Rhinelander.

Store manager George Allen started looking for a new location a few months after acquiring the old location in October of 2015, when it became apparent the organization was receiving more donated items than the building could hold.

"I started getting in so much furniture, and furniture was a big part of our sales over there," he said. "We were selling an average of $10,000-$12,000 a month just in furniture, which is good."

After remodeling the new space and moving in the inventory, the new location finally opened Oct. 25.

The old building was 5,000 square feet. The new one is 14,000 square feet and already filling up.

"It's been a win-win just by getting the bigger location," Allen said.

The feedback he has received from customers is that they like the space, the building materials, selection of windows and doors, and the better lighting.

The ReStore sells a variety of items including couches, chairs, bed frames, lamps, dressers, desks, TV stands, stoves (gas and electric), refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, etc.

The store des not carry or accept chemicals, clothes, bedding or dishes. They also will not accept appliances that are older than 15 years.

When the relocation is complete and shelving is built, the ReStore will start accepting lumber, sheeting and other building materials, according to Allen.

"The money that we make by selling these donated items goes toward building homes for Habitat for Humanity," he explained.

Their goal, in the next couple years, is to build two homes a year.

The ReStore is open to everyone in the community.

"This is for everybody, that if you want to save money come here by us," he said. "People get that misconception that this is only for the people that we are building homes for (and that's not the case)."

People can make donations now, either by dropping items off during the hours of operation only, or have them picked up.

The public is asked to refrain from dropping off items when the ReStore is closed as the items may be damaged by the weather and the ReStore will have to pay a disposal charge.

Pick-ups are Tuesday for in Rhinelander, Thursday for out of town.

The ReStore is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The ReStore may be reached at 715-420-2301.
