"Happy Endings starred Don Franzen (Spike) and Cheryl Paulson as his estranged wife (Cherry Pitts)," the release states. "Don and Cheryl absolutely wowed the crowd with beautiful duet versions of 'We Believe in Happy Endings' and 'My Elusive Dreams.' Don once again delighted the crowd with the show's signature number, 'The Red Light Saloon,' and a perfect rendition of 'If There Hadn't Been You.' Cheryl's 'Sweet Dreams' rivaled professional performances of Patsy Cline's most popular song. A side plot had Irish MacMuffen (Pat Lowery) and his favorite lady-of-the-evening Annabel Nightshade (Annette Neitzer) caught in a love triangle with newcomer Gerhart Grishaber (Gary Baum). The three provided their top-notch playing and singing talents, especially with Pat's 'Ridin' the Rails to Wabeno,' Annette's 'Travelin' Soldier,' and Gary's 'Cigarettes, Whiskey and Wild, Wild Women.' These rocky relationships are a sign of the times as the convergence of Women's Suffrage, World War I, and Prohibition, forces saloon owners Cathouse Cate (Kathleen Marsh) and her moonshine-loving, comic husband Whiskey Jack (Jon Marsh) to shutter the Red Light Saloon. Nevertheless, happy endings spill over everywhere: to saloon girl Cindy Lou Lovelace (Cindy Resler) and her favorite customer Bruno Beerstein (Bruce Resler); Mama (Cindy Jonet) and her fiancé Ivo Weinerschnitz (Scott Wycherley); the Deacon (Al Benson) and his wife Caroline (Mary Benson); Elvira (Bev Gerndt) and her husband Flapjack (Lee Gerndt), and saloon girl Lulu (Shirley Ashbeck). Marilyn Karow, Jerry Bodoh, and Kris Vandervest added their wonderful singing voices to an incredibly entertaining production. Providing extra pizzazz were colorful saloon girls Violet (Nancy Jo Garner) and Cassandra (Sandy Jenkins). It takes many other volunteers to make such an event happen: rehearsal narrator Sandee Bodoh; stage and set helpers Don Ashbaugh and Dick Culver; seating assistant Mary Stehula; bartenders Jean and Bruce Beno and Wayne and Diana Deja; ticket-sellers Janet Biese, Barb Ouellette, Mary Campion, Jean Fietzer and Vicky Vandervest; Jeff Mayer, Sound and Light Solutions; photographer Jacqulyn Jahnke, and videographer Don Fietzer. All agreed it was a fittingly oof-dah happy ending to a five-year run of memorable performances at the Red Light Saloon."
Record proceeds of $3,000 will be used for maintenance at the Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum off County Highway F in Lakewood. For people unable to attend, the entire show is available online at Red Light Saloon Music & Comedy Revue 2016.
