Dave Havel was installed as president in October, taking over from outgoing president John Viste. Havel's goal for the year is to increase club membership by attracting community-oriented individuals who want to serve children and families in the Rhinelander area, according to a club press release.
Rhinelander Kiwanis is a part of Kiwanis International, a service organization dedicated to changing the world by serving children, one child and one community at a time, the release states.
Through its annual Winter Escapes fundraiser and holiday poinsettia sale, the Rhinelander Kiwanis Club has raised more than $300,000 over the past 30 years to fund children and family-oriented projects and programs in the Rhinelander community. Among the major Kiwanis-funded projects are the outdoor basketball court at Central School, the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry greenhouse, the playground equipment at Pioneer Park, and the new children's arts education classroom at ArtStart Rhinelander.
