Some gave all: Northwoods communities to honor the fallen

Below is a schedule of local Memorial Day ceremonies:
Cemetery Ceremonies
The VFW Honor Guard will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 8 a.m. Monday at the Newbold Cemetery.
AMVETS/American Legion Honor Guard will visit Northland Memorial Park at 8:30 a.m.
The VFW Honor Guard will gather at 9 a.m. at Forest Home Cemetery.
At 9:30 a.m. the AMVETS/American Legion Honor Guard will honor heroes at Nativity of Our Lord Cemetery.
Rhinelander
The annual Rhinelander ceremony will be begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the Rhinelander High School Auditorium.
The RHS Show Choir and band will perform.
Tammy Walters, Oneida County Veterans Service Officer and emcee, will give the opening remarks.
The history of Memorial Day will be recited by Connor DeLaney.
The guest speaker will be Mark Michie, retired brigadier general of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Ryan Kovac, 2016 Veterans Council scholarship winner, will read the "Gettysburg Address."
The names of all of the Oneida County veterans who died between May 1, 2015 and May 1, 2016 will be read.
The ceremony will end with the reading of the history of Taps and an RHS band performance of the song.
Tomahawk and surrounding areas
The Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard will host Red, White and Blue Day at Tomahawk Elementary School at 2 p.m. May 26
The same group will hold a Veterans Memorial Ceremony at 9 a.m. May 28 at the Prairie Rapids Cemetery.
After the ceremony, breakfast will be served at the Prairie Rapids Tavern.
The Einar Ingman Veterans Memorial Motorcycle Ride will depart the American Legion Post 93 in Tomahawk at 10:30 a.m. May 28. Those planning to ride in the procession can start arriving after 9:30 a.m.
The Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard will participate in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Union Grove Cemetery, located on Lakewood Road in Harshaw. The ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at the Cassian Town Hall afterward.
A Memorial Day Ceremony is also planned for 10 a.m. May 30 at Veterans Memorial Park in Tomahawk. People are encouraged to bring their own chairs. If case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the VFW Hall at 4th and Rice.
The Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard will also visit Greenwood Cemetery, Calvary Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery on May 30.
