Rhinelander High School graduate and University of Minnesota Duluth women's volleyball player Taylor Wissbroecker was named the university's Butch Raymond Scholarship winner last friday.

According to a UMD press release, the $5,000 scholarship, sponsored by Sanford Health, is given to 16 student-athletes - one recipient at each of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference member institutions. Raymond was the NSIC commissioner from 2004 to 2014.

To be eligible for the scholarship the recipient must be a senior academically in 2015-16, have a GPA of 3.20 or higher, be participating in intercollegiate athletics and plan to work in a health related field or attend graduate school in a health-related field.

Wissbroecker, an outside hitter who was on the NSIC All-Academic Team during the 2014 season, came into her own in her junior season. She earned NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 5, while averaging a career-best 2.73 kills and 2.55 digs per game on the season. Wissbroecker was also a finalist for UMD's Shjon Podein Community Service Award this past school year.
