According to the criminal complaint, special agents from the Wisconsin Department of Justice arrested Daniel E. Schellinger just after 8 a.m. May 5.
According to the report of the special agent in charge of the case, as part of an ongoing investigation into child pornography, the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) obtained a search warrant for Schellinger's cellphone, computers and other electronic devices.
Once the DCI agents made contact with Schellinger, he allegedly admitted to using his phone to view pornography, including photos and videos depicting children. A forensic examination of Schellinger's cellphone resulted in the discovery of at least 10 images prosecutors allege to be child pornography, the complaint states.
Schellinger appeared before court commissioner Galen Bayne-Allison May 6 to answer to 10 class D felony counts of possession of child pornography. He was ordered held on a $5,000 cash bond and will next appear before circuit judge Patrick O'Melia June 6.
If convicted, Schellinger faces a minimum of three years and up to 25 years in prison.
