Gloria Anderson, the director of the StateLiners line dancing troupe, teaches the classes.
"Line dancing is a popular form of dance that anyone can do!" Anderson said in a press release announcing the classes. "It has been researched that dance of any kind is a healthy exercise. Some of the benefits of dance include, improving memory skill, better heart health, weight loss, increasing energy, improved balance, flexibility and aids in diminishing depression. It's also a fun way to meet new friends!"
Andersen returns each May from Arizona ready to teach new dances. Line Dance classes will start on Tuesday, May 17. Beginners and new dancers will have opportunity to learn this form of dance that uses many different rhythms, such as polka, tango, rumba, cha cha, swing and country western. Beginning classes are held each Tuesday at St. Albert's Catholic Church basement in downtown Land O' Lakes. Classes start at 9:30 and last approximately one hour, with a cost of $5 for each lesson, with an option to stay for the Improver Dance class until noon.
Beginner classes will continue on each Tuesday through Sept. 27.
For those with experience in Line Dance, Andersen has added a new Advanced Line Dancing Class held on Thursdays, starting May 19, 10 a.m. to 11:15, with a cost of $5, held at the Gateway Lodge in Land O' Lakes.
