Peoples State Bank donates to Harshaw Memorial Day ceremony
By Kayla Thomason-
"It's awesome (to receive the donation)," said John Pauke, board member with the Veterans Ceremony Committee. "The hardest part is trying to reach out to the community for sponsorship, of course there's nothing you can do these days that is free. The more donations we can get the easier it is for us to put on the show for Memorial Day."
This year's ceremony, the 17th annual, will be held at 11 a.m. May 28 on the grounds of the Union Grove Cemetery.
The theme will be "Medal of Honor" - the highest military award for heroism.
Organizers will recognize Einar Ingman, a Korean War veteran and the last Medal of Honor recipient in the state of Wisconsin. Ingman passed away Sept. 9, 2015.
The spectacular Veterans Memorial Ceremony will be complete with flyovers, the cannon salute, Marine Honor Guard, the Einar Ingman Veterans Memorial Motorcycle Honor Procession,, organizers said in a press release. Trillium will provide the music. It is suggested that guests bring a chair.
"The crowds love the symbolism of the flyover and the cannons," Pauke said.
Craig Lau, vice president of Peoples State Bank and a board member/treasurer of the Veterans Ceremony group, finds this donation extremely important "because it is a day for all to remember the sacrifices individuals made for our county and the ceremony is an educational learning program for our youth."
"We greatly appreciate all the help that we get from Peoples State Bank as well as the rest of our donors. Without them we wouldn't be able to put on the ceremony," Pauke said.
