Eagle River Speedway to hold preseason test Friday
The one-third mile dirt track will open its 42nd season of racing with a practice session Friday. It's a night where the stock car racers will get the chance to see if all the work they did on the automobiles over the winter pays off - whether that was changing the engine, building a new roll-cage, tweaking the setup, or changing the part that should have been changed last year.
To the stock car racing fanatic, all that matters is that the drivers will be able to get out on the tri-oval and get some practice laps in before the season-opener.
"This is a chance for the dirt track stock car racer to get a feel for the car, truck, Micro Sprint 600 or Junior Sprinter," explained Eagle River Speedway Promoter Kevin Dawson. "This practice night is even open to the cars and drivers of classes we don't run. The practice session lets the racer know what needs to be done to be ready for the season opener on May 20."
The practice session runs from 6 to 10 p.m. Those racing in all of the track's five weekly classes will have a chance to practice. This includes the two WISSOTA-sanctioned classes - Midwest Modified and Street Stock. Also getting the chance to take to the track will be the Pure Stocks, Micro Sprint 600s, and Junior Sprints.
The locally-owned track will have four nights where the Speedway Trucks will be added to the weekly five-class show.
"The Speedway Trucks will have a chance to get a feel for fun and challenging Tri-Oval," commented Dawson.
The track, which opened on a limited basis in 1974, and a weekly schedule in 1975, is known for its special race nights dotted through the summer schedule. This year those special events include the return of the popular one-on-one spectator races. In addition, the track will have an IROC night.
"IROC stands for International Roll Over Championship," Dawson said. "We're also going to have four nights that are a part of the Midwest Micro Sprint Series, and two nights that are a part of the Side by Side ORV XTreme Challenge Series."
Eagle River Speedway's 2016 schedule includes two nights for Flat Track Quads, and the AFCO Race of Champions Qualifier night.
"Once again this year we're going to have fan nights, such as the kick off to the Fourth of July weekend," Dawson added. "That will be the Harry's Fireworks night on July 1. The Tori Stevens Memorial Night, and the Junior Fan/Autography Night is on our schedule this summer."
