Two people with Ironwood, Michigan addresses were arrested March 18 for selling the depressant alprazolam (Xanax) in multiple controlled buys in various locations in Oneida County in February and March.

Thomas D. Hicks, 35, and Dani L. Hicks, 43, were arrested just minutes after Dani Hicks conducted a third transaction, according to a complaint filed March 21 in Oneida County Circuit Court.

Members of the Northcentral Drug Enforcement Group (NORDEG) observed the couple during the controlled buys, the complaint states.

Although the two share an address in Ironwood, they have previous convictions in Oneida County. Court records show Thomas Hicks was sent to prison for four years after his probation on a 2010 arson conviction in Oneida County was revoked.

Dani Hicks has three retail theft convictions in Oneida County on her record.

In the new case, Dani Hicks is charged with manufacture/delivery of schedule IV drugs, and two counts of manufacture/delivery of schedule IV drugs (party to a crime), all with the repeater enhancer.

Thomas Hicks is charged with two counts of manufacture/delivery of schedule IV drugs (party to a crime), also with the repeater enhancer.

Two of the three transactions Dani Hicks is accused of taking part in took place in the town of Woodruff and occurred on Feb. 19 and 26, the complaint states. The last transaction allegedly took place in Rhinelander on March 18. Thomas Hicks is charged with being a part of the last two transactions, according to court records.

Police reports indicate that Dani Hicks contacted an informant by telephone to set up two of the sales while the last sale was directly to a NORDEG detective.

In each of the transactions, the drug purchased by investigators was alprazolam, the complaints state.

Both defendants appeared before court commissioner Galen Bayne-Allison on March 21.

He set $5,000 signature bonds in both cases. Both defendants are scheduled to be back in court for adjourned initial appearances March 28 before circuit judge Michael Bloom.

The charges are class H felonies punishable by up to six years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000 on each count.

The repeater enhancer, which was applied because the two have each been convicted of at least three misdemeanors, could add up to two additional years on each count.
