The Northern Edge high school club figure skating team recently competed in Wisconsin Rapids earning medals at all three levels A, B and C.

Grace Hoger and Lauryn Cook won the level A portion of the event finishing first in jumps, second in spins and fourth in moves in the field (MITF). The result put them in the lead to defend their state championship. The Edge holds a three-point lead over the Eau Claire and Fond du Lac area co-ops who are tied for second. The final competition of the season is Sunday, March 20 at D.C. Everest High School in Schofield.

In level B the team of Carmen Incha, Caitlin Harris and Rachel Uhlarik took third place MITF. The level C team of Lauren Rosendahl and Michelle Pazdernik also bought home the bronze medal in MITF.

It was the third straight medal in the event for the C team.

Northern Edge finished second in the full team event of entertainment for their third top-two finish of the year.

Figure skating has been a high school sport in Wisconsin for six years. The Northern Edge, a co-op of Rhinelander and Tomahawk High schools was formed four years ago. There are four competitions a year and the points leader at the end of the year is state champion.

Last year the Northern Edge team won the class A title over the Appleton area team by one point on the final jump of the competition. Currently 38 states have high school figure skating and the national final competition is in Ohio this April.
