ArtStart's spring season to open with photographic art exhibition
The exhibition opens Thursday, March 24, and will run through May 28. It will include the work of photographers Hal Rammel, Vicki Reed, F. Martin Morante and Carissa Heinrichs. The four artists are members of the Gallery 224 Photography Center in Port Washington.
"'In Light We Trust' is a fascinating look at the photographic methods that were used before we all became point and shoot, Photoshop digital photographers," ArtStart program director Laura Ehmann said. "While digital technology, at times, plays a minor role in this work, this exhibition focuses on the many fresh possibilities remaining in the realm of analog photography. The riches of these long-lost and then rediscovered techniques remind us that there are many, many ways to see the world that celebrate its shapes and places and the light that surrounds us."
Photo processes used by the artists include photography with homemade cameras, imaging with no cameras at all, hybrid techniques that blend digital and analog approaches, cyanotypes, wet plate collodion, CMY gum bichromate and van dyke and platinum palladium printing. The exhibition includes examples of gelatin silver prints, cliché verre etching, lumen prints and pinhole photography.
ArtStart will host an Opening Artists Reception at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 2, followed by a family-oriented "Arty Party" featuring food, music and games at 6 p.m. in conjunction with this exhibition.
ArtStart Gallery is located at 68 S. Stevens St. in Rhinelander. Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Admission is free, and donations are accepted.
