Wabeno Area Players to debut second play by area playwright
"It will be the world debut of the comedy, which will produce giggles and guffaws, and has many story twists," the theater troupe said in a press release.
The playwright, Gail Blohowiak, was born and raised in Green Bay, but now flits between the Northwoods of Wisconsin (Wabeno area) and central Florida. After writing two business books, she now writes memoirs, fiction, and plays. Last summer, the Wabeno Players produced her first play, "Let Them Eat Spam." During the winter she penned, "The Revenge of Spam" that, though it is a sequel, stands on its own.

The Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening shows will start with a complimentary meal, served from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; the performance will follow at 7 p.m. The Sunday matinee begins with the meal served from noon to 1:30, with the show at 2 p.m.

"The Revenge of Spam continues the story of Beverly and Phyllis, two broke widows who had been swindled by the same sleazy lawyer," the release states. "Beverly, played again by Carol Bartlein, and Phyllis, again played by Linda Harter, then found financial success and love through opportunities found in the SPAM folders in their email. Together they founded the Willing and Able Construction Company. Phyllis then married the rich and wonderful Able Howard, again played by Bob Brown, and Beverly found great success and happiness with Able's brother Will, once again played by Ray Appel. The story seems too rosy to be true...and it is! When Phyllis and Able return from their round-the-world honeymoon, they find themselves with financial problems that may ruin their marriage. Once again, the naive ladies seek financial success on the Internet. Beverly and Will believe Phyllis and Able can find economic success by creating an on-line dating service, targeting a group they know....the sixty-something crowd looking for love. The mother-and-daughter restaurant team, of Karla and Katrina played again by Ginnie Riley and Kim Odekirk, have a growing business, but are still seeking revenge on the sleazy lawyer Frank Cheatum, who is Karla's ex-husband and Katrina's despicable deadbeat dad. The plot twists as Karla sees the online dating site as her answer to love and Katrina sees it as a way to trap her dad in his own dating frenzy."
The plot includes a hilarious speed dating event which includes the appearance of a number of real characters, including Kathy Millan, Tim and Connie Friesen, Linda Boatright, Ron Bond, and Gary Baum. Josh Jameson is the lighting technician. The play is directed by Carol Bartlein.
