Green Shorts at Nicolet College June 16 looks at planet Earth through lens of short films
While the collection of 16 short films has some of what one would expect - primarily exquisite scenery from far-flung places - "we also wanted to make sure we included films people would not expect," said Steve Schreier, who curated the collection along with Tom Jerow.
"The natural world is a vast and diverse place and how people view and interpret these places is equally as varied," Schrier said in a press release. "It would have been easy to put together a collection of short films that only show beautiful places, but we wanted it to be much more than that. We wanted to open up new perspectives for people and how they view the natural world around them."
This is the third collection of short films the two Rhinelander residents have put together for the 2015-16 Nicolet Live! series and by far the most time and labor intensive, the release states. Schreier and Jerow culled through more than 200 films to come up with the final 16.
These range from a regional piece about removing a dam in Black River Falls, to "Idiot with a Tripod" about an East Coast blizzard, to an animated piece on space junk to a film on what happens to our clothes after they are donated. Films will run anywhere from a few minutes to about half an hour.
Schreier and Jerow will introduce the films, facilitate discussion, and answer questions.

The showing, the last event in the 2015-16 Nicolet Live! series, is free and open to the public.
