Island Yooper groove to fill downtown Rhinelander at free Conga Se Menne show June 4
The evening will start with opening act Brothers Burn Mountain playing at 5:45 p.m. followed by Conga Se Menne starting at 7:30 p.m., with both shows on South Brown Street.
"Conga Se Menne is always a blast to see," Nicolet College Theatre Director Jim Nuttall said in a press release. "Along with being fantastic musicians, they have a whole lot of fun on stage and that really comes through in every performance. They are definitely a one-of-a-kind band and a must-see for anyone looking to have a great time."
Hailing from Marquette, Mich., along the shores of Lake Superior, their musical style is impossible to pigeon-hole, running the gamut from reggae, blues, and funk to Caribbean beats and ethnic Finnish sounds, the release states.
The show was originally scheduled to take place in the Nicolet College Theatre but was moved to downtown Rhinelander when the theatre became unavailable due remodeling on campus.
Brothers Burn Mountain, sponsored by Hext Theater, is a U2-, Dylan- and Doors-influenced guitar and percussion duo noted for its original indie sound and masterful songwriting.
Those attending will need to bring their own chairs if they would like to sit. In the event of heavy rain, the free show will be moved to the Hext Theater, where seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Typically, Conga Se Menne plays two 45-minute sets.
The stage will be located near the intersection of Brown and Davenport Streets.
The evening's activities kicking off the summer season are co-sponsored by Downtown Rhinelander, Inc. and Nicolet College.
