Dr. Zavialova will discuss ArtStart's current exhibition which features works by noted artists including Aleksandr Egidis, Mai V. Dantsig, Vladimir N. Nemukhin and others.
Artistic styles in Russian art reflected the political climate of the time and were often dictated by the degree of government tolerance.
"An artistic dichotomy emerged: neo-classical still life and portraits hung in the spacious apartments of the Party elite while proselytizing works of Socialst Realism were displayed in public exhibitions and museums," Zavialova said in a press release.
Illustrations of this dichotomy in the ArtStart exhibition are on loan from the Museum of Russian Art. The exhibition is co-sponsored by Ministry Health Care and WJFW.
The reception, gallery talk, and entry to the exhibition are offered at no charge to the public, and refreshments will be served. ArtStart is located a 68 S. Stevens St. in Rhinelander. Parking during the downtown street construction project is available in the public lot behind McDonald's restaurant.
