People who attended cannot use enough superlatives to describe the Old-Time Tent Revival held under the Big Tent at FirstMerit Bank in Townsend on June 18. Nancy Gardebrecht, branch manager, welcomed the nearly 200 people who had come out on a beautiful June evening to hear 35 singers put heart and soul into popular hymns written prior to Townsend's founding in 1916.

St. John Lutheran Church Quartet called God's Guys (Don Franzen, Pastor Steve Mueller, Dick Popp, Scott Wycherley) began Part I with beautiful renditions of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder." Jerry and Sandee Bodoh delighted the congregation with "That Old Time Religion"; and Marilyn Karow delivered an impressive "How Great Thou Art." The St. John Church Octet (Elizabeth Couillard, Don Franzen, Kathy Jesinski, Pastor Steve Mueller, Marilyn Karow, Dick Popp, Judy Prilliman, Melody Stake) wowed the crowd with "Just As I Am."

Al Benson's "In the Garden" was superb, and then a stirring version of "In the Sweet By and By" was sung by Sandee Bodoh, Annette Neitzer, and Cheryl Paulson. Rounding out the first part of the Revival was a series of three hymns: "Blessed Assurance," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Bringing in the Sheaves," all sung to perfection by a Community Choir under the direction of Scott Wycherley.

Choir members were from St. John Lutheran Church, Townsend; St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church, Lakewood; and Forest Larger First Presbyterian Church, Wabeno: Norma Behling, Judy Biwer, Jerry Bodoh, Sandee Bodoh, Cliff Haskins, Elizabeth Couillard, Nancy Dutton, Lois Fischer, Lee Gerndt, Alice Goffard, Dale Greenwood, Bernice Gruenke, Kathy Jesinski, Marilyn Karow, Nancy Klug, Vince McCabe, Kathy Moerman, Tom Moerman, Annette Neitzer, Cheryl Paulson, Lori Paulson, Judy Prilliman, Sharon Ruck, Phyllis Schmidt, Melody Stake, Arlene Tucker, Lorna Weyenberg, and Patrick Weyenberg.

Pastor Dick Kendall of First Baptist Church in Antigo gave an inspiring sermon. In his message, he urged those in attendance to "revive" themselves by putting on the armor of Christ in order to face the world without trepidation.

Jerry Bodoh began Part II with a charming, upbeat version of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot." Lee Gerndt and Al Benson teamed up for an unforgettable "Rock of Ages"; Annette Neitzer's "I Love To Tell the Story" was exquisite; Don Franzen was magnificent as his deep bass voice was perfect for "Go Down Moses"; Cheryl Paulson sang a wonderful "Nearer My God to Thee"; Lee Gerndt's "Old Rugged Cross" was flawless, and Liz Couillard's "Amazing Grace" was simply amazing.

The Community Choir ended the program with three fantastic numbers: "Every Time I Feel the Spirit," "When the Saints Go Marching In" and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." The congregation showed its appreciation with a generous free-will offering of $750 and an extended standing ovation.
