Rhinelander swimmers compete in Badger State Games
Abi Winnicki had the biggest haul with eight gold medals, a silver and five personal-best times. She won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 28.96 seconds), 50 butterfly (34.11), 100 individual medley (1:18.11), 100 freestyle (1:05.93), 200 IM (2:54.00), 100 butterfly (1:19.61), 50 freestyle (30.34) and 500 freestyle (6:55.66). Additionally Winnicki finished second in the 200 medley relay.
Samson Shinners won five gold medals, two silvers and a bronze, and turned in six personal best finishes at the games. He won the 50 free (37.57), 25 butterfly (21.13), 100 free (1:33.47), 25 free (16.27) and 50 butterfly (50.22). He took second in the 100 IM and 25 breaststroke, and finished third in the 50 backstroke.
Andrew Thimm earned two gold, one silver and one bronze medal. His wins came in the 200 butterfly and as part of a 200 medley relay team. Thimm finished second in the 200 free, 100 butterfly, 200 backstroke 2:36.57, 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle. He took third in the 100 backstroke.
Makenna Winnicki medaled in two event. She was on a winning 200 freestyle relay squad and took third in the 200 backstroke. Additionally, Winnicki finished fourth in the 500 free, 100 backstroke and 200 butterfly 2:38.53; fifth in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle; sixth in the 200 IM and seventh in the 50 free.
Taylor Hollands earned bronze medals for her role in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. She also posted a personal-best time in the 200 free (2:24.48), placing 12th in the event. Hollands took 13th in the 100 butterfly and 200IM, 16th in the 100 free 1:08.49, 14th in the 50 free 30.46, 17th in the 100 backstroke 1:21.86 and 11th in the 500 free 6:43.08.
Ella Cordy had four personal best times during the meet. She posted an amazing 15-second time drop in the 50 breaststroke to finish 26th in the event with a time of 1:05.62. Cordy also finished 21st in the 100 freestyle (1:40.21), 28th in the 50 freestyle (43.77) and 26th in the 50 backstroke (54.54), dropping time in each event.
Cordy added a fourth-place finish as part of a 200-yard freestyle relay entry.
Suamico Meet
Makenna Winnicki also participated in the Howard Suamico Meet the first weekend in June. There she placed fourth in the 1,650 free, 100 backstroke and 200 free relay; fifth in the 400 IM, 100 free and 200 medley relay; sixth in both the 100 and 200 butterfly and 12th in the 200 IM.
