Brides-to-be looking for ideas for their dream wedding can see what vendors have to offer and what style of bridal attire is trending during the 2016 Magical Moments Bridal Expo Jan. 23 at Lund and Taylor Bridal Gallerie, 15 S. Brown Street, Rhinelander.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the fashion show to begin at 2 p.m.

Admission is free, however a donation to the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry would be greatly appreciated.

Approximately 20 models will be wearing 50 to 90 dresses and tuxes/suits during the fashion show. This year, styles by Alfred Angelo will be heavily showcased.

According to Mary Taylor, owner of Lund and Taylor Bridal Gallerie, lace is still very popular, and with the increase in barn and outdoor weddings vintage it is still a favorite. A new trend is a more casual attire for the bridal party.

"They're not the big poofy ballgowns, they're the more simple, softer-flowing dresses, lace, not so much tulle and netting, and for the guys a lot of them are wearing vests and ties and pants, going without a jacket," Taylor said, adding that men have been wearing more suits than tuxes.

For the fashion show, Taylor said she is focusing on the "best of the best" dresses.

"I don't see any themes happening this year, it's more casual," she said. "I think that's still a fad right now that people are doing more yard weddings and barn weddings and keeping it more simple."

Lund and Taylor carries dresses in sizes four to 26 and can order gowns up to size 30.

During the expo, Lund and Taylor will give away a $500 gift certificate.

Each participant will be given a bingo card and they will have to go to each vendor and get each square initialed. The card will then be put into a drawing for the $500 gift certificate.

Door prizes from the various vendors will also be given away throughout the day.

Brides-to-be can visit vendor booths covering all aspects of wedding planning, from catering and cakes to designers, floral arrangements, music, venues, photography and video, and beauty.

Brides

A-line dresses and illusion necklines are popular again this year, according to Taylor.

She said it seems people are more focused on the neckline and the back of the dress. Heart-shaped or keyhole open backs and illusion netting are frequent choices.

Ivory dresses are still the biggest seller due to how well the color complements a variety of skin tones, she added.

Oftentimes brides-to-be are excited to try on those dazzling dresses and show them off to their mother and a group of friends, but there is such a thing as too many people - and too many opinions - that can make choosing that perfect dress difficult, experts say.

Taylor recommends an audience of no more than three people to keep the opinions and suggestions to a more manageable level.

Brides-to-be and bridesmaids should get their dress a year to six months before the wedding date so there is plenty of time for alterations.

Bridesmaids

With vintage wedding dresses still popular, complementary pastel bridesmaid dresses are a favorite of many brides, although Lund and Taylor has dozens of stunning colors to choose from.

These dresses can often be found with soft illusion. Dresses with straps are also making a comeback, Taylor said.

When it comes to the length of the dresses, brides are favoring long gowns.

When selecting bridesmaid dresses, the bride-to-be should be aware that one dress may not look as good on one bridesmaid as it does another due to varying body shapes.

Some brides pick out a color and let their bridesmaids choose their own dress to better flatter their figure, Taylor said.

Mother-of-the-bride dresses

Long mother-of-the-bride dresses are still popular as are dresses with sleeves or jackets, as many women want to cover their arms.

Mother-of-the-bride dresses are typically a darker version of the bridal party's, Taylor said.

Groom/Groomsmen

For grooms, charcoal-grey tuxes/suits are popular.

Men have many options to choose from, from the number of buttons to the style of the lapel, the color of the vest and tie, pleated or unpleated pants, and which type of shoes to wear. Groomsmen and mother-of-the-bride attire should be purchased no later than six to eight weeks before the wedding.

Tips

There are many little details that need to be handled before the lovely couple can say "I do," and Taylor says wedding planning should begin as soon as possible, preferably

a year in advance but no later than six months.

Brides-to-be should be aware that dresses take weeks to arrive - six to eight or more for some dresses - so that must be taken into consideration when planning.

For brides-to-be or bridesmaids planning on slimming down for the wedding, it is still recommended to get the dresses early as they can be altered.

But the biggest thing to remember is, at the end of the day the happy couple gets to spend the rest of their lives together.

"(Brides should) just remember that at the end of the day they (are) marrying the man that they love and that's all that matters, no matter what goes wrong," Taylor said.
