This is a free event for youth in grades 3-13 to learn basic ice fishing skills from certified 4-H leaders, according to a press release announcing the outing. "Youth will have the opportunity to gain real ice fishing experience with tip-ups and jig poles, bait, and a chance to see firsthand how much fun this Northwoods winter sport can be," the release states. "Equipment and bait will be available for those who need it."
This event is free of charge and open to all youth, whether they are enrolled in the 4-H program or not. Youth and adults do not need a fishing license to participate as this event will be held during Wisconsin's Free Fishing Weekend. Pre-registration is requested by Wednesday, Jan. 13, online at fyi.uwex.edu/oneidacounty4h or by calling (715) 365-2750.
Participants should meet at the Lake Julia boat landing located off Timber Lodge Road in Rhinelander. Near the intersection of State Highway 17 S and Highway 8 (near Quality Collision Center), travel south onto Boyce Drive South, and then turn left (southeast) onto Timber Lodge Road.
